Career Summary

Mr. Hossain has worked in the water resources sector for about 39 years. During his long career he worked in Bangladesh Water Development Board, Joint Rivers Commission (JRC), Bangladesh and Private Organizations. He was involved in the field of construction- related to water resources project, planning, negotiation meeting with neighboring countries on transboundary river issues. The noteworthy construction projects were Teesta Barrage Project, Greater Dhaka City Flood Control Project and Sirajganj Hard Point related to Brahmaputra Right Bank Protection Project. He spent major period of his career in JRC, Bangladesh. Mr. Hossain was Member, JRC for about 9 (nine) years. He led the Bangladesh side of the Technical Committee of the JRC regarding Transboundary River issues with India and Nepal. He participated in the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s visit to India in January, 2010 as a member of the Bangladesh delegation. He also participated as a member of the Bangladesh delegation in various meetings of JRC and Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the neighboring countries on Transboundary River issues. He visited many countries (Abu Dhabi, Bhutan, Cambodia, Canada, China, Egypt, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, The Netherlands, Pakistan, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, UK, USA, and Vietnam) for participating in the Trainings, Workshops, Seminars and Dialogues. Mentionable are Water Diplomacy Workshop in Boston, USA, Joint Learning on International Waters in Washington, and 6th Annual International Law and Transboundary Freshwater Workshop in the University of Dundee, Abu Dhabi Dialogue on Water Cooperation in South Asia supported by the World Bank, Meetings of the Parties to the UNECE on Water Convention.
