Career Summary

Engr. Md. Waji Ullah holds a master’s degree in Hydrology from the University College of Galway (UCG), the Republic of Ireland, second master’s degree in Water Resources Development from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand and B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He attended many international and national training and seminars; his academic studies and professional training cover a wide range of areas like water resources assessment, project planning, development and management, especially related to environmental and social studies, macro and micro level water resources project planning, environmental and social studies, Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), hydraulic and hydrological design, construction, monitoring and evaluation and so on.  

He has over than 30 years of experience in analyzing project interventions, conducting IEE/EIA, baseline studies, hydrological analysis, water resource assessment, development of model for water balance assessment, hydrodynamic modeling, rainfall runoff modeling, and salinity model and so on. In his earlier career while working under Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), he was actively involved in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of development projects including food assisted development projects located all over the country.

He has sound commands and long track records of leading and efficiently managing multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams. He undertook the responsibility of Team Leader in many EIA/SIA studies for the Water Resources Management Projects located in coastal zones of Bangladesh. He also conducted many field investigations and applied various social tools to acquire indigenous technical knowledge of local stakeholders in the coastal areas. He has extensive experience of using RS/GIS tools and techniques and modeling tools in various areas and stages of water resource projects.  

Engr. Waji Ullah accomplished writing of many project reports and scientific papers on natural resource management and water resource assessment. He has vast experience of working with national and international development partners such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, USAID, JICA and so on. His track records include working as a mission member of Asian Development Bank and Joint Mission of Asian Development Bank – Royal Netherlands-World Bank, which have added a feather to his career. Presently he is an Honorary Member of the Joint River Commission (JRC), Bangladesh.
