Career Summary

Malik Fida A. Khan is a Deputy Executive Director (Operations) of CEGIS and member of National River Conservation Commission (NRCC), People's Republic of Bangladesh. He obtained M.Sc. in Hydroinformatics from IHE, The Netherlands and B.Sc in Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET). He took in a number of training at national and international arena such as hydrological and hydro-dynamic modeling, climate change modeling, GIS and Remote Sensing, project planning and management.

Mr. Khan has over 29 years’ extensive experiences spanning across the diversified fields of Water Resources Planning and Management, Climate Change, Information Technology, and development projects in Bangladesh. He has skills for development of integrated planning and implementation through multi organizational involvement and participation of stakeholder for optimum utilization of resources. He is experienced in engineering aspects related to water management schemes and impact on water resources. He has actively engaged many studies as Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader.

He has experience in formulating the mechanism for assessing the climate change vulnerability, selecting the critically impacted elements, and quantification of damage due to mega disasters climate, multi-sectoral analysis for impact of climate change, setting up monitoring mechanism of evidence of climate change and climate variability. He has the experience to assess the need for awareness rising, capacity building, and education programme on climate change issues and make inventory for collection of emission related activity data, institutional advancements for mainstreaming/servicing adaptation, and good practices on adaptation.                

Having a sound knowledge of water resources and the hydrological set-up of the country; Mr. Khan is adroit in formulation of various water resources planning for the country. He has experience working as resource planner and has formulated strategies for delta, haors, coastal areas and Chittagong Hill Tract Areas of Bangladesh. The projects he was involved in are: Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100, National Water Resources Management Plan, Haor Master Plan, Southern Agricultural Master Plan, Water Management Improvement Project, District Development Plan’ for the Districts of Bhola and Cox’s Bazar, Design of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project etc.

As a senior Mathematical Modeler, he has assumed lead numerous modeling studies in CEGIS for conducting hydrological and hydro-dynamic modeling studies undertaken for improvement of flooding and drainage situation of urban and semi-urban areas, mathematical Modeling for urban housing projects are noteworthy projects where he has shown his modeling expertise. Besides, he has vast expertise in spatial database management using GIS, and Oracle/SQL server & access databases.

He has more than 12 years of experience in transboundary water management in Bangladesh. He is involved and led the study team for development of sustainable water sharing options of important transboundary river between Bangladesh and India based UN International Water Course, 1997. He worked in a number of projects on transboundary water management issues.

Mr. Khan has long experience of working with ministries, departments, national and international development partners.

He has sound administrative management skill demonstrated with the efficient supervision of management of accounts, logistics, procurement and other relevant sections and well thought out decisions for overall guidance for improvising the performance of different administrative sections. He is managing, monitoring and guiding the professionals of different divisions for procuring business, delivering out-puts to the clients, report quality control and provide others administrative guidance through involvement in business harnessing, project formulation, management and development.
