Mr. Md. Kamruzzaman Akand has been working as an Associate Specialist in River, Delta, and Coastal Morphology Division of Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) since February 20, 2011 to till date. He is proficient in GIS, Remote Sensing, Google Earth Engine, Topographic survey with Total Station & GPS, DSSAT crop modeling, SOBEK (1D /2D) modeling, SDSM (Statistical down Scaling Model), SWAT model and Land Use Scanner Model. He lead/contributed to a number of national and donor aided research projects and gained valuable experiences in regard to project proposal writing, conducting/commissioning professional research projects, undertaking Environmental Impact assessments including baseline surveys, GIS analysis and Map preparation, Hydrodynamic Modeling, and presenting/publishing-related results.
Being a geographer and working in the interface between man and environment, he has a strong field orientation that helped him to understand the physical systems and social processes. This orientation and exposure help him to unearth the roots of the problem. He uses different qualitative, quantitative methods like PRA, FGD, questionnaire survey, statistical methods, and spatial analysis techniques like GIS and RS to examine and understand societal/environmental problems. He has received training on Google Earth Engine, IWRM, Disaster Management, and GIS/RS technology from different National and International institutes.
