Dr. Jakia Akter has over 20 years of professional experience in the field of water resources and environmental management. Her expertise includes 18 years in water resources management and river morphology, 18 years in hydrological and hydraulic modelling, 20 years in GIS and Remote Sensing applications, and 15 years in environmental and climate change–related assessments.
Dr. Akter has served as Team Leader, Deputy Team Leader, and Professional Expert for approximately 15 years in various national and donor-funded projects. She has led multidisciplinary teams in hydrological analysis, mathematical modelling, and environmental planning under projects implemented by BWDB, WARPO, and CEGIS.
She has over 15 years of experience working in key thematic areas such as Mathematical Modelling, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Feasibility Studies, and Master Planning. Her work includes riverbank erosion prediction modelling, drainage and irrigation system design, and coastal resource management.
Dr. Akter has contributed to several nationally and internationally significant projects, including the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 (BDP2100) and the National Adaptation Plan (NAP). She has collaborated with major development partners such as the World Bank, ADB, JICA, UNDP, and FAO, providing technical expertise in geo-morphology, hydrology, modelling, and environmental studies.
She is proficient in advanced modelling and analytical tools, including ArcGIS, Delft3D, SOBEK, MIKE11, SWAT, MODFLOW, HEC-RAS, MATLAB, and SPSS, and has extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications for data management, analysis, and technical documentation.
