Career Summary

Ms. Ahmed has been working in the fields of urban planning, regional planning, climate change studies and environmental and socio-economic assessments for the last more than 18 years. She has worked in a number of national and international projects focusing on planning at local and regional levels, strategy formulation, vulnerability assessment and adaptation to climate change. Some of the projects include: Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100, Sea Level Rise in the Coastal Zone of Bangladesh, Haor Master Plan Project (HMP), Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan Project (ICZMPP), Chittagong Hill Tracts Improved Natural Resources Management Project (CHARM), Second National Communication Project for Climate Adaptation (SNC), IWRM in Urban Risk Reduction and Management (case studies in Japan, China and Bangladesh), Supporting Urban Governance Reform Project (SUGRP), Water Management Improvement Project (WMIP) etc. Moreover, as a part time lecturer, she has delivered lectures in BUET on GIS applications.


Education

Completed her PhD on Adaptation Planning for Urban Flooding considering Changes in Climate Urbanization from Vreij University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The title of the thesis was Resilient Adaptation to Flood Risks under Climate Change and Urban Growth Dynamics in Delta Areas. She applied the Adaptation Tipping Point and Adaptive Delta Management approach. M.Sc in Environmental Science (Specialisation in Environmental Planning and Management), UNESCO-IHE, the Netherlands, April 2008. Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (M.U.R.P), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka.
