Development of a Microfinance Information Database Management System (MFI-DBMS) for the Entire Micro finance Sector of Bangladesh

Microfinance Information Database Management System (MFI-DBMS) is a National Level Database covering the entire Microfinance sector of Bangladesh. It contains information of different organizations such as NGO-MFIs including Grameen Bank, Government Micro-Finance Providers, Banks, Non-Bank Financial Institutions and Micro-Finance Fund Providers. These organizations are also able to access necessary information from the system. Apart from that, a number of stakeholder/peer organizations like Prime Minister's Office, Bangladesh Bank and Parliament can get access to MFI-DBMS and extract various information regarding microfinance activities to make decisions. MRA engaged CEGIS to develop this system. This MFI-DBMS acts as a decision support system to help sustainable growth of Microfinance Industry of the country and to contribute to evolve regulatory aspects for the Regulators. Web based MFI-BDMS consists of several modules. Basic Info Module helps to capture basic information of MFIs which assists MRA to monitor and assess the current state of the MFIs. Licensing Process Module automates the whole licensing process includes inviting application, rejection, suspension, cancellation, renewal, payment etc. Loans and Savings Module captures both saving and loan related information of MFIs. Program or activities other than credit & saving are included in Product Module. This module also defines new products and keep training information of MFIs. Supervision Module assists MRA to supervise the activities and operations of MFIs through offsite as well as onsite supervision. Report/Query Module generates standard and customize reports retrieving information from MFI-DBMS. Security issues as access level security and event tracking will be maintained through Event Viewing and Access Control Module

Development of web based GIS application software and Linkage with BBS website

The main objective of the project is to develop a web enabled geo-spatial census database and  a set of web enabled application tools to search, query, view and disseminate the information both spatially and non-spatially for Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) which is in line with the activities of “Digital Information System of Bangladesh”. The Web based application contains a number of modules, such as a Data Explorer, a Map Explorer, Export Tool, Reporting Tool and Metadata Viewer. The Map Explorer has been developed for generating maps dynamically and view or extract census and survey data as required. The Data Explorer has been developed to generate tables, maps and charts from census and survey data. The export tool then can be used to export the information. The reporting tool provides the facility to view reports including the table, chart and map in one document. A metadata viewer has been incorporated with this application to describe the background information of the data.

Maintenance, Updating and Dissemination of NWRD

The aim of the development of National Water Resources Database (NWRD) is to assist and guide water resources planners in decision making and developing national level planning for water sector development in Bangladesh. This database covers spatial and non-spatial data from the whole country. It is the largest geo-spatial database of the water sector of Bangladesh. It contains more than 500 data layers consisting of spatial, temporal and attributes information. The data available in NWRD has been collected and collated from different data providing agencies. Data is organized in NWRD into several data groups like Base data, Surface water, Groundwater, Soil and Agriculture, Fisheries, Forest, Socio-economic, Meteorological, Documents and Reports, Environment and Images. Each Data Group is sub-categorized into number of Data Types. Each Data Type contains several Data Layers.   The NWRD has been updated and upgraded under Component S-3B of the Water Management Improvement Project (WMIP). All data layers have been updated using the latest information available with the source organizations. Some new data has been incorporated. The database has been upgraded using Oracle 11g and application tools using ASP.Net framework. WARPO has also taken an initiative to host the database on a web based server to ensure proper utilization of the database by a wider range of users, planners and decision makers. A web enabled user-friendly interface has been developed for NWRD to view, query and analyze data from the database.

Development of MIS for Bangladesh National Museum (BNM)

The BNM and its four branches located in different parts of the country contain about 1,00,000  archeological objects of different types. The detailed information on all these objects needs to be preserved in a systematic way and stored into a secure database system. This will help to prevent the loss of historical information about each valuable object as well as the object itself. CEGIS has signed a contract with Bangladesh National Museum (BNM) to develop an MIS under Information, Communication and Digitalization Program of BNM. The main objective of this project is to develop a digital information system of the objects and computerization of the National Museum for producing a virtual museum system in line with the vision of a “Digital Bangladesh.   The main component of the MIS is Object Identification System (OIS). OIS is a web enabled application which will assist in registering each of the historical objects. It will help to capture detailed information about each object including classification, date of accession, accession number, type of object, material used, measurements, distinguishing features, estimated price, place of origin, acquisition history, condition of the object and the location of the object within the museum.
