Natural Resource Mapping and Monitoring
The forest coverage including Sundarbans Mangrove Forest, Coastal Mangrove Plantation, Plain Land Sal Forest, and Hill Forests were mapped for Forest Department of Bangladesh using high resolution IKONOS and RapidEye Satellite Images under the project “Satellite Data
Processing, GIS Analysis and Map Preparation for FIGNSP of Forest Department”. In 2010, the river network database was updated under the “Bangladesher Nad Nadi” Project of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) using satellite based remote sensing technology. The
waterbodies of Bangladesh were updated under “National Water Resources Database” project of WARPO using LANDASAT images of 2010 and high resolution satellite imagery accessible through Google Earth.
