Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Forest Department under the Sustainable Forests and Livelihoods (SUFAL) Project, organized a national validation workshop on 28 June 2025 at the Hoimonti Auditorium, Bana Bhaban, Agargaon, Dhaka, titled “National Validation Workshop on Generation of the Land Cover and Natural Capital Map and Developing Integrated Collaborative Forest Management Plans” The event presented the updated 2023 national land cover map; natural capital mapping for hills, hill-cutting areas, and wetlands (beels, baors, lakes, and haors); and integrated collaborative forest management plans for the Dhaka Forest Division, Chittagong North Forest Division, Coastal Forest Division of Patuakhali, and Madhutila Protected Area.
Mr. Gobinda Roy, DCCF and Project Director of SUFAL, delivered the welcome remarks. Speeches were given by special guests Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary, MoEFCC; Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman ndc, Director General, Department of Environment; Mr. Malik Fida A. Khan, Executive Director, CEGIS; Mr. Jiaoqun Shi, FAO Representative in Bangladesh; and Dr. Md. Istiak Sobhan, Environmental Specialist, World Bank. In addition Mr. Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Director, Remote Sensing Division, CEGIS deliver the presentation on Natural Capital Mapping. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Honorable Adviser, MoEFCC, and the Chairperson, Mr. Md. Amir Hosain Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Bangladesh Forest Department, also addressed the workshop. Participants from government agencies, academia, and NGOs provided valuable feedback to support sustainable forest and natural resource management.
