Technical Assistance on Study on the Effect of Climate Change on National and Regional Highways of Bangladesh and Climate Resilient Design for Highways of the Coastal Region

Bangladesh’s geographical and climatic vulnerability exposed its road infrastructure to severe risks from cyclones, floods, storm surges, and droughts. Given the nation’s reliance on agriculture, natural resources, and transport, climate change posed a significant threat to stability and growth. Immediate studies were conducted to assess risks, adapt remedial measures, and create a climate-resilient road inventory, particularly for coastal areas like Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, and Noakhali. The project aimed to understand climate impacts on coastal roads, identify high-risk areas, develop resilient designs for roads and bridges, and build capacity among RHD officials to implement effective countermeasures against climate hazards.
