Master Plan for Haor Area
The haor region of Bangladesh has long been lagging behind the mainstream of national development. There are about 373 haors/wetlands dispersed around the districts of Sunamganj, Habiganj, Netrakona, Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Maulvibazaar and Brahmanbaria. The Bangladesh Haor and Wetland Development Board (BHWDB) in association with CEGIS has developed a 20-year Master Plan which is being implemented on the short, medium and long term basis. The overall objectives of this planning action are in line with the Vision 2021, Five Year Plan and other relevant policies of the Government of Bangladesh. This plan spells out the means for optimizing available resources for future development by incorporating social and environmental considerations. The planned investment portfolios of 154 projects were prepared for 17 sectors. In line with, the Haor Master Plan some projects are already being implemented by different agencies.
